Made it to Kipnuk!

On Thursday, July 29, flew from Chicago to Anchorage. It was a 6 hour flight. First of three flights to get to Kipnuk.

I got to spend a few days in Anchorage with my mom. We had an absolute blast. We hiked Flattop Mountain, took a glacier cruise, photography tour and so much more! The weather in Anchorage was absolutely perfect. It was clear skies, sunny and over 70 degrees.

I headed to Bethel on Tuesday, August 3. It was a nice 45 minute flight from Anchorage.

An employee from the school district (LKSD) picked me up from the airport and took me to the hotel. The next day, I had New Teacher Orientation. During the orientation, other teachers made us some Alaskan food to try during lunch. That included: moose spaghetti, moose soup, dried seal, etc,. My favorite was the moose spaghetti (pictured below).

After a couple of days in Bethel, I took a plane to Kipnuk. What a beautiful flight. From the plane I could see the Bering Sea! This flight was about 40 minutes. When we arrived, we walked to the school and had a tour and made it to our teacher housing. I live about 45 feet from the school entrance!

Kipnuk has been great. This time of year it is sunny here until midnight and the sun rises around 4 am. It has been quite cloudy here, but Sunday, August 8 was a beautiful day. I was able to see the sunset and it was amazing. The people here have been so welcoming and helpful.
