The past couple of weeks have been fun! I have two highlights to share. The first involved a party. I got a call from the parents of one of my students and they informed me that there was a throwing party happening right now and that I should come. I told the other new teachers and we went to check it out. What exactly is a throwing party? It is exactly as it is named. At a throwing party a family throws all kinds of stuff (towels, candy, soap, spatulas, baskets, toilet paper, pens, sponges, etc) to females in the community. This is a female only event. Throwing parties are typically held to celebrate “firsts”- the birth of a child, or an amazing accomplishment, etc. I caught a sponge, pen and some candy! It was so cool to experience and share in the happiness of this family .
The second sweet thing that happened this week is that I received a fish. One of the workers at Chief Paul Memorial School gave me a King Salmon he had just caught. I had to get an unscented bag to put it in and then put it in the refrigerator. Then, I had to figure out how to filet this salmon and cook it. After looking at a couple of videos online I was ready. It was awesome getting to prepare my fish from start to finish and it ended up being the best fish I've ever tasted.
Awesome!!!
